SICEM SAGA was awarded with the prestigious MIAC ASSOCARTA INNOVATION PRICE, on the occasion of the first edition. The competition promotes technological innovation initiatives in the paper sector to promote investment and competitiveness in companies and the implementation of innovative technologies. Sicem Saga won with the project "Energy recovery from process wastewater in the form of advanced biomethane for automotive use", to have introduced a first example of virtuous integration between the recovery of organic waste components and the production of biomethane. This is one of the most promising energy carriers on which the paper industry will be able to count in order to achieve the targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The circular economy project is absolutely innovative because it foresees that the process wastewater, currently treated in a conventional aerobic plant, is used as a starting material in an anaerobic pre-treatment of advanced biomethane production. Therefore, having no waste material, it does not create any kind of interference in the production of the typical food products of our territory. The project is aimed at the use of advanced technologies, completely controlled and manageable with 4.0 technologies in order to improve the sustainability of the process. This already stands out for the use of a natural raw material -mostly recovered- aimed at the production of paper, that today is among the natural materials that can be recycled in the front row to help reduce the use of plastic. Articles on this arguments are published on the main regional newspapers.
